We would like to take this moment to honor those from FCI Ashland that have been called to active duty and are currently away or going away shortly for the service of us all.  May God Bless them, watch over them and bring them home safely and quickly.

 Bush Signs 1% Pay Increase

THIS JUST IN

The issue of the an officer being able to work more than one quarter on an armed post has been settled.  The Master Agreement will decide who works the Perimeter and how many quarters they may work the post.  A more detailed report of the actions taken to achieve this will follow later as the information comes to me. OVERTIME CHANGES MOVE THROUGH CONGRESS

April 4, 2003

This week House Republicans voted in favor of a bill
that would radically alter the federal overtime laws
and cut overtime pay and protections for millions of
workers. The bill, similar to President Bush's proposal,
would allow employers to pressure workers into working
overtime without pay. Under the Bush proposal, millions
more would lose overtime protections. While every Democrat
voted against the overtime cuts, the Republican-controlled
committee debating the change was able to pass the
legislation. In an insult to working mothers who would
lose their overtime, Republican House leaders have
said they want these overtime cuts passed by the entire
House of Representatives before Mother's Day. We have
to join together to stop these overtime cuts.

In response to last week's e-mail alert regarding cuts
in overtime protections, nearly 80,000 faxes have been
sent so far by people like you to President Bush, U.S.
senators and representatives. We need to grow this
number. We're setting an immediate goal of 250,000
messages to be sent on this attack. Here is what you
can do to help us meet this goal.

1. If you haven't already, please take one minute right
now to click on the link below to send your message
opposing cuts in overtime. This is the same link others
can use to take action.

2. Tell as many of your friends, family and co-workers
about these proposed cuts in overtime. We especially
need people to take action in the following states:
New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida,
Maine, Colorado, Arkansas, Louisiana, Delaware, Michigan,
Illinois and Wisconsin.

3. Download a flier to distribute in your workplace
and community about overtime cuts. Click below for
the flier. Also look for a flier soon on President
Bush's proposed budget and tax cuts that would destroy
jobs and lower wages.

Finally, you can check the progress of our combined
efforts toward the goal of sending 250,000 messages
opposing overtime cuts by clicking on the link below.
The page will be updated daily with results.

Thanks for all that you are doing. Remember, if you've
already taken action the most important thing you can
do is to get thousands of others to join with you.

There are some interesting articles about Privatization on the AFGE National Web Page, you can access the articles by clicking on the link (AFGE National Web Page) below.  I haven't linked these articles because membership is required to access them on the National Page.  There is no cost for membership but you must be a union member and join.  It's well worth the few minutes it takes to sign up for the information available on this site.

Please keep in your thoughts and your prayers all those who are away from home now protecting all of us.  Let us never forget the sacrifice they are gladly giving and may we always show support for all those serving in our Armed Services.
