Strength in Solidarity

The past month the Local has been working on a few issues of importance to our members. We just finished negotiations on Unit Team schedules. Management was trying to make some Arbitrary moves of some team members. We negotiated this for two days and came out of negotiations with none of the team members being moved. We do plan in the near future to come up with a plan to have some kind of plan for moves in the future. We are set to go to Arbitration on April 25th, 2003 for management's failure to allow Officers to work back to back armed. This case is very winnable and we hope management settles before we have to spend our local's money on this. Congress has just introduced a bill to upgrade the Civil Service Reform Act. This is going to affect the way overtime is going to be handled in the future. This will have a affect on federal agencies, we don't know how much. I urge all our members to write their congressmen and to have friends and family to do the same, to NOT support this bill.  I will give updates as they become available. This bill will affect the private sector as well. There is an EEO case this week that Vickie Pennington is working on.. we expect to have a good outcome from this case also. I have approached management about "shift differential" for scheduled overtime. We have not been compensated for this and I expect to pursue this until we get it settled. Scheduled overtime is overtime scheduled before the administrative work week. We have quite a few staff that are eligible for this. Well until next month this is the current happenings for Local 1286 Ashland Ky.
